The Breath of Night

Anika Joseph

The sun dips below the horizon

Its crimson rays fading to grey

The labor of the day is done

Shadows dissolve into the night

The whispering breath of night chases the swelter away

The streets are empty, time stands still

Leaves rustle gently

A bat flaps by

Tranquil repose abounds

The stars glow like dewdrops

The full moon is in bloom

It bathes the earth in its mellow glow

The birds start chirping, dawn is nigh

Golden rays pierce through

The inky shroud of night
