“There is a glorious sunrise

Dappled with the flickers of light

From the dress I wore at midnight

Leave it all behind, and there is happiness.” — Happiness by Taylor Swift

In a way, life is a new beginning. The first beginning. Being born is a miracle, but having a life to laugh, cry and enjoy is a blessing. So make the most of it.

Being in this school since kindergarten, I’m lucky to have not joined later on in the years when everyone had already established their friendships and social lives. Yet, I feel a sense of nostalgia and belonging every new academic year for my own school, that just heightened due to the reconstruction of the Heritage Block. Taking a walk, I could recall all the fond memories I made as a small kid. And if I know anything for sure, it’s that I will remember all these past years’ memories.

I’ve always lived by this quote – “Life is like a book.” Every page is new and unfamiliar. Yet, we can’t skip sentences, phrases, paragraphs. We have to live with every plot twist, good or bad. And every new chapter is a new beginning. Every character should come to you and leave better and happier, lest they leave. So for all the new students, this is a new chapter in your book. I can promise you, Bombay Scottish School will be an eye-opener and a life-changer. Not just academically, but socially and in extra-curriculars too. So reminisce about your old school (or past school years), but also be proud to be in Scottish for this new grade.

So my message to you is this — this year, new Scottishite or old, be proud of yourself. Be bold. Talk and laugh and cry and have fun, and don’t be afraid to get into a little trouble every now and then ;) But above all, live this year to the fullest, cause you’re never going to get it back.
